There’s something about walking through a park, especially one you know well and then noticing something new. A splash of color that wasn’t there last week. The subtle shift of a bloom opening. Or the quiet greeting of a flower you’ve never met before.
Yesterday, I went to one of my favorite parks with my camera and a brand-new macro lens that had just arrived. I couldn’t get out the door fast enough. It felt like a mini adventure waiting just beyond the trees.
What I found truly surprised me it was a flower I’d never seen before, possibly a Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) or maybe a Scarlet Beebalm? (Please correct me if I’m wrong I’ve been using Google Images to help!) It was the most brilliant shade of fuchsia pink, and I was completely mesmerized. I’ll let you decide for yourself in the photo collage below. It was one of those moments that made me feel deeply grateful for the way nature constantly renews itself and invites us to do the same.
Here are two Tiger Lilies that seemed to bask in the sunshine, their beautifully varied petals glowing in the light.
And then.. this daisy. I loved getting so close I could see right into its heart, the golden center just beginning to frame itself in soft white petals. There’s something grounding and magical about seeing a flower at that level, up close and almost like it’s whispering a secret.
I’ve even included a selfie, because it helps me remember exactly how I felt on this beautiful day.
More than anything, this outing reminded me why I love wandering with a camera in hand.. to explore what’s changed, what’s just beginning, and what beauty is quietly waiting to be noticed.
If you’re reading this, thank you. This is my very first blog post, and I’m excited (and a little nervous) to share more glimpses of what I see, feel, and find.
Until next time...
May you notice something new and beautiful, even in the most familiar places.
